Two Months

It's been two months now with Mason in our lives and it's been so much fun.  And even more than that, it has been wonderful.  The time he gets to spend with his daddy is priceless and I look forward to it everyday.  Not only because I can finally get to rush clean the house but because it's always so short that I can tell Mason really enjoys it.

It's been amazing to see his effect on our extended family as well.  New aunts and uncles came rushing this way just to spend a few hours to get to know Mason.  Each time they held him I thought of all the effort and energy each one put into praying and fasting just so that this little boy could find his way to our family - and yes I still get teary each time.  We wouldn't have Mason here if it weren't for all those that prayed and fasted for us, for him, and for his birth mother.  But it's obvious he was always meant for our family.  He just chose a different route to get here and it was one that strengthened not only Mitch and me but our entire family and friends.

A few things Mason has been doing this past month:

• Smiling more everyday.
• Discovering his voice - I caught him talking to himself several times in the morning.   Its a much more enjoyable way for me to wake up and hear that instead of him crying for food.
• His hands - Mason's been trying hard everyday to stick his fingers in his mouth, and has succeeded a few times in sucking on his fingers only to accidentally pull them out again.
• His legs - Standing is something he loves to do and no matter what position he's in he tries to launch himself up onto his feet. 
• Discovered the outdoors - He loves to explore, so taking him outside where he can see everything amazes him.  It's fun to watch him turn his head and twist trying to see the sky or the grass.  He's even tried to use his legs to put up and over my shoulder to get to the window.
• Bath time - FINALLY he's starting to enjoy bath time. It's been about two weeks since he last screamed during it.  Now he just cries when we take him out.
• Sleeping on his tummy - Nap time is different from bed time and Mason prefers to sleep on his tummy on the couch or on the glider chair.
• Copying - It's still kind of rare but he'll copy my facial expressions.  The most popular one is licking his lips.

Things Mason loves:

• Similac - He's eating five to six ounces at a time now.
• His swing and when gets tired of that he loves his bouncer (especially now that he's figured out moving his legs makes it work)
• The Lamb - I'll include a picture sometime but he loves to stare at this ugly little toy lamb.
• Sleeping in his car seat - still can't get a good nights rest without it.
• To be talked to - He loves having someone in his face talking to him.
• Visitors - he loves new faces.  So when we had aunts and uncles and grandparents over (pretty much every weekend) he loved to stare at them and listen to the new voices in the house.
• Stroller - when it gets to bumpy he does complain a little but he loves the walks and loves the motion.  Having him in the stroller daily helped get him used to the feeling so now when I put him in the shopping cart all I have to do is keep him moving and he's good.
• A good foot rub - Easiest way to get him to calm down.  Doesn't always work and sometimes works too well and he falls asleep when he's not supposed to.

Nicknames he's acquired in such a short time:

• Jellybean
• Mr. Bean
• Pumba - He snorts when he's mad, it's hilarious
• Buddha - That's just his tummy when its full
• Rolie Polie - I like singing him the song
• Buster
• And my favorite - Squishy

He's a very healthy little boy and continues to grow at an amazing rate, even though I've asked him to stop many times.
