I am having the best of luck with doctors. Well let me rephrase that. I am having the best of luck finding doctors for Mason. (Mitch and I are a different story) I don't think, since Mason was born, we've had a doctor we didn't love. Or that Mason didn't easily warmed up to.
Two days ago we changed insurance and sadly had to change doctors as well. Which is why is two year appointment ended up being a month after he turned two. (shrug - oh well) For the first time we took a small risk and instead of looking for a 'friend recommended' doctor, we just called an office that took our new insurance. All the long, silently praying it'd be a good one.
Turns out, he's a great doctor!
Mason always warms up to the grandpa types so easily and this man was just one big smilie grandpa. Mason fell in love with him. In fact the poor nurse that took mason's measurements probably thought my little boy was a terror. Because the instant he saw him (the nurse) Mason burst into tears and held onto me like his life depended on it. Which surprised me because this nurse was a very nice looking young man. (Oh my word I said young man, just realized how old I am. But that's what he was.)
Then the moment the doctor came in, Mason insisted on showing off his cars, and his new lightning McQueen sandal's. He practically talked the doctors ear off. By the end of the appointment they were best friends and I felt great too. Why you ask? I got a little praise. The fact that Mason's talking so clearly, and is so healthy, happy and social the doctor pretty much gave me a pat on the back and told me I'm doing well. (Yay!) I realized I need that from time to time. Not because my self esteem depends on it, but it's good to be reminded by someone that's not related to you, that you're doing something right.
He did however warn me that psychologically Mason might need me to remind those that come in contact with him, that he is big for his age. See, Mason is the same size as most three year olds. But he's still only two, so it's okay that he still does baby things. Doc warned me I'll start to notice a lot of side glances or scrunched expressions from other mothers, as they wonder why this big boy is still acting like a baby. And since he's going to be tall all his life, he's going to be feeling those judgement a lot as the years pass. So by saying something as simple as, "Mason you're so big for a two year old," will help him, as well as stop any judging expressions along the way.
Being average size all my life, I never really thought about it. So it's really good to have the doctor remind me. Plus Mason comes off as being so smart. I don't look at him as a two year old anymore. He understands much more then many his age. I mean he's already figured out many ways to manipulate me, so he's got to be smart. I'm such a push over.
So that was our adventure to the new doctor today.
And now brag time. It's about two months old but I'm posting the first article of faith. I love this Video. And the fact he ran up to me, insisting I get it on video makes me so proud.
STATS:
Weight: 30 lbs 11.5 oz - 75% (Seems like this has been the pattern all his life)
Height: 37 1/4 inches - 95% (See, he's the size of most 3yr olds)
Head: 80% (He's got a lot of space and it's filling up day by day)
