Double Digits

Mason has officially reached his 10th month and I am constantly surprised at how quickly he is developing. Plus he's such a happy little boy.  Even the growing pains are not as terrible as they could be. Mason handles them like a champ.  At his last doctor's appointment we were informed that his entire top row of teeth were primed and ready to come through at anytime.  Today's behavior suggests that anytime is closing in, but he's still rolling around on the ground making me laugh.

Just for the record Mason is only 22 lbs but even the doctor had to recheck her scale after picking him up.  He is a solid boy so carrying him around feels like your carrying a strong 25 lb bag of potatoes.  If he doesn't want to be held you have no choice but to put him down, he is too strong to resist.  The back arch is his signature move thus putting him in his car seat [or changing his diaper] when he doesn't want to, is nearly impossible.

The muscle on this kid is remarkable.

He's also a pro when it comes to walking.  He started letting go of the furniture mid 8 months.  At 9 months he was able to make some distance.  Now at 10 we can't stop him.  He can even vary his speed, walking on the balls of his feet or on his tip toes.  His calve muscles are as solid as the rest of him.  He pushes up on his toes to chew on the entertainment center or reach of a book on the book shelf. (he keeps reaching for Harry Potter or Narnia, they are the biggest books at his eye level)  We also find him every morning and after every nap bouncing incessantly in his crib.

So here's the bullet point sum up -

New things:
  • Walking - Truthfully he only crawled for four weeks before he finally mastered walking and gave up on crawling all together.
  • Kneeling - he can kneel in the middle of the room but can't quite stand unless there's something he can pull himself up with.
  • Talking - It doesn't make any sense yet but he sure thinks he does.
  • Eating solid food - Lately during dinner time he'll spit out his baby food, that is his way of insisting he be fed whatever mom and dad are eating.  He loves soup, corn, potatoes, rice, and last night he at quite a bit of my pork chop.
  • Mario - He loves to watch mom play Mario.  Of course mom doesn't want to play Mario all the time.  Like right now just so I could write this blog entry I had to turn on the opening videos for Mario world, and he's been quiet the whole time.
  • Teeth - we now have two bottom teeth which he likes to use to bite EVERYTHING.  I think his favorite though is mom's knee when she's not paying attention and feet.  He loves to bite peoples toes.
  • Books - Me loves to walk around with a book in his hand or mouth.
  • Cheerios - Yay I finally have a justified reason to carry Cheerios to church ... other than the fact that I want a snack.
  • Car Videos with Daddy - Not a shock to many of you my husband loves to watch car videos and probably really not a shock to any of you Mason loves to hang out with his daddy.  Mason loves to sit on daddy's lap with the Mario Cart Wii controller (the one that's shaped as a steering wheel) and watch Car videos with daddy before bed.

  • His Blue Satin Blanket - We had to get a second one because he's chewing it like crazy.  It's fun to hand him his blanket because he instantly buries his face in it.
  • Fishie Faces - He started randomly doing them two weeks ago.  It's hilarious when he can hold it longer than a few seconds.
  • His finger in his nose - Not long ago Mason realized that his pointer finger fits in the hole up his nose.  He'll walk around with a smile on his face and his finger up his nose.  It's really funny ... oh dear.
  • Bruises - Mason got his first official bruise the other day.  He was playing with the kids and fell and hit his head, twice, in the same place.  He ended up with a small bruise on his eyebrow which amazingly disappeared the next day.  But I have been told to brace myself because Mason is a boy and he's destined to get more battle marks in the future.  (I'm really not sure if I'm emotionally ready for such things)

Trying to hide from the camera ... he didn't get far.
Dislikes:
  • Baby Food - like I said he's much rather eat something with texture.
  • Shoes - we put a pair of real shoes on his feet and it was as if he feet were glued to the ground.  He would not walk.  It was hilarious!
  • Being tired - I think the only times we really hear Mason cry is when he's overly exhausted, really hungry, or hurt.  Other than that he just whines when he's not getting his way
Chris that looks like my hat.

Tastes like my hat too.
Oh and I almost forgot to tell you about the outfit he's wearing.  It was so sweet, about two weeks ago Mason wasn't letting me sit through the lesson in Relief Society.  So I was out in the gym with him waiting for him to wear himself out for a nap ... it was taking longer than usual.  But a sweet lady whom I had never met, and still don't know her name came up and told me how she's knitted a hat and sweater for a little baby but the one she'd made it for wasn't going to fit in it for another four months and by that time it'd be summer.  But when she saw Mason walking around she instantly wanted him to have it.  I thought she was sweet and we smiled and laughted at our brief encounter.

Today the Relief Society President showed up at my door with the hat and sweater from this sweet lady.  We thought it was so much fun we stuck it on him for his pictures today.

And she was right, it fits perfectly and it looks GREAT on the boy!

 THE END.

  1. "Tastes like my hat too." Baaahahahaa! I love this cute little man.

Also, you need to know about vinegar! When anyone gets bonked, put some cider or white vinegar on a washcloth or paper towel and hold it on the spot that got bumped for 30 seconds. (Yes, with babies this is like alligator wrestling, but if you count in a sing-song voice and bounce or dance a little bit, you can at least count to 10. M counts with me now.) It makes the bump go down and the bruising less, and takes lots of the hurt out.
